The Sustainable Events Planner was launched on Friday 20th February as part of the Inaugural National Sustainable Events Key Forum & Expo '09. There was much excitement in the room during the preview of the various online components. The audience learnt how this resource is going to benefit the production of sustainable events through providing a platform for the various event industry groups to reach their target audience.

Summer of Sustainability Video

Summer of Sustainability is an action learning partnership between government, non-profit organisations and some of Australia's leading music festivals. In the summer of 2008, Sustainability Victoria went out to 5 Victorian music festivals to find out what they thought about sustainable events. The questions were simple - what did the festivals think about sustainability? What were they already doing? And how did they think they could do it better? Along the way, the partnership grew to include Victoria's Sustainable Living Foundation (SLF) and the new Sustainable Events Planner.

You may have read on our website that JEM Promotional Products are part of a program called Symmetry where we have worked on developing a Environmental Sustainability Management plan for our business. Symmetry will be exhibiting at the Macarthur Lifestyle & Business Expo on the 6th, 7th & 8th of March at the West Leagues Club in Campbelltown.

My package in the mail...an effective direct mail campaign

I got a rather exiting package in the mail today and being in marketing it can be hard to find a different and interesting marketing campaign to get excited about. It consisted of a mail tube and then inside was what looked like a cartoon poster wrapped around a hollow-tube.


It is hard to see from the photo above but the poster looked pretty thin so boy was a surprised when the poster turned out to be around 3.5m long. The office tape measure is about half that length so our measurements are probably a bit dodgy.


It is really important to communicate the same message across mediums so if you have a promotion where you are giving away a gift with purchase in-store it is a good idea to make sure your point of purchase material communicates the promotion as well.



Direct Mail campaigns can be very successful, in this situation my attention was definitely caught and I think that is the true way to measure whether a campaign has been effective or not.

Are the days of photo albums over? Maybe we can we have the best of both worlds?

The traditional Family Photo Album, has over recent years seen a slow decrease in new photos being added. It's as if most people's lives came to a sudden stop in 1998, with hardly any new photos being added, to the usually 'splitting at the seams' album.

It is a sad situation when you consider that with the development of technology, especially in the digital cameras area, came at a price; And that was to the usual family history and recording that came in the form of event photos in the Family Photo Album.


With the flexibility and ease of use provided by the digital camera, where photos are easily taken and seen immediately, many great photos are achieved by even the least experienced photographer. Most would agree that it has been a great innovation.

I'm sure we can all relate to this and I would guess that most of us have lots and lots of unprinted photos stored in our cameras and computers and that is fine but let's not stop printing photos altogether! I know that it is a bit of a task having to organise printing etc but if the right printer was available I believe we would print many more photos and possibly share them a lot more.
Today, I came across a small printer that I think can really help address this problem and that is the Polaroid Pogo Printer. It is easily transported and very flexible! What a great way to share photos with family, friends and work colleagues right there on the spot. I'm sure most people will cherish a printed photo much more than the usual digital unprinted variety. You might even see your handy work in your family's and friends Photo Frames and Photo Albums, proudly displaying your photographic skills in capturing the right photo opportunity! And if you are the creative sort you might also pre-prepare some photo mounts ready for that extra bit of event identification that will really finish off the photo.

Work Safe & Sun Safe - Hard Hat Brims

It can sometimes we difficult to get the right balance between physical safety, sun safety and comfort. In working environments where there are certain physical dangers involved it is important to be protected but it is also important to be protected from the sun. The Visorganizer...enough said

Ha ha now I don't know if this product actually exists of whether it is a prototype but I read about it on tenbucksworth.com and I thought it was blog worthy also. Now, apparently the concept with the Visorganiser is that it turns your hat into another pocket...brilliant!

It clips onto the front of your visor and can carry up to 7lbs of stuff without your cap slipping down past your eyes. My favourite part of the box design is the tagline "Use your Head and Stay Organised" lol

I honestly don't know if anyone would be willing to step out of the house with this thing on their head but if they were game I am thinking suitable situations or industries might be for paramedics or first aid officers because they could carry the first aid kit on their head thus freeing up their hands to assist the injured...yeah not sure if that one is going to fly frankly

JEM Promotional Products supports Summerfest

At the start of the year JEM Promotional Products were approached to support an event called Summerfest by providing some t-shirts for the leaders at a discounted rate. We had never heard of Summerfest but once we learn't a bit more about it we were more than happy to help and so we provided 80 of the shirts below at cost price.


The dust has well and truly settled after SummerFest, and what a week it was! It was a hugely successful week, with over 80 leaders and about 600 kids, youth and parents coming to Summerfest each day!

Summerfest has an 11th year history of serving the Central Coast through a Kids and Youth program, while providing the "Getaway Cafe", an oasis in the desert for parents during the hot days of summer.

New Product - Non Woven Cafe Bags

We have just added a fantastic new product to our range, a Non Woven Cafe Bag. The bags holds 4 Coffee Cups, has a base for stability but also folds completely flat so that you can carry it in your handbag.

We have the product available in 5 stock colours but we also offer an express service where we can offer up to 15 different colours. There is a longer lead time to produce the non-stock fabrics and a minimum quantity of 300 is also required.

Some great features of this bag include that it has a pocket on either side where you can put sugar and with the Express Service you can customise the pockets and handles to be a different colour from the rest of the bag. Personalised balloons for your engagement or birthday party

It was my engagement party over the weekend and working for a promotional products company comes in very handy when it comes time to decorate : )

I was looking for some inspiration and came across this pattern on some tissue paper:


I brought it to work and our fantastic graphic designer Lindsey was able to redraw the pattern for me. She put together a few options but the one I decided to go with was the pattern in the shape of a love heart.

The colours I was using for the engagement were gold and an ivory white so I decided to go with both those colours for the balloons and we reversed the artwork to match.





I ordered balloon clips to make it easy to seal them and long white balloon ribbons that are pre-cut so that they would all be the same length



To weight the balloons I ordered gold boxes that I filled with sand bags.



Here is a photo of them balloon table decorations set-up at the party. I was really happy with how they turned out.

Blast from the past...water snakes

Ha ha when I saw this product I had such a blast from the past; do you remember playing with water snakes when you were little? I remember being mesmerised by the fact that I could never quite catch it! Here is a video off YouTube of someone trying to catch one.

This would be a great conference bag item because it would really break the ice and get people talking. It is also a great stress reliever : )

The Handy Tee...keep your golf tees and ball marker close on hand

Earlier this week I featured the Golf Twister which is a personal golf ball cleaner and I have just come across another fantastic golf product called the Handy Tee. The Handy Tee clips onto your golf glove and can holder 2 golf tees and a golf ball marker.

When you play golf there are so many products you need to carry around with you but it is really good that the Handy Tee allows you to have two of the more important products readily available.
